"4 Steps to Finding the Right Coach"
Looking for a coach to help you with your ADHD? Be aware that there are a lot of different types of coaches, such as life coaches and business coaches, career coaches, relationship and financial coaches, to name but a few.
How should you wade through the confusion? How do you know who will be good for you? What you should expect from a coaching relationship?
First, hire a certified coach. A certified coach is someone who has successfully completed an accredited coaching program, such as Coach U, Coaches Training Institute, or the Newfield Network, among others. Certification is particularly important because currently there is no license required to practice coaching.
Second, look for a certified coach with specialized training in ADHD coaching who has at least 60 to 100 hours of professional coaching experience with people with ADHD. Doctors, therapists, parents, spouses and satisfied adolescent and adult consumers attest to the fact that an ADHD-experienced coach is the best way to go.
Third, spend some time on the phone with a prospective coach before hiring him or her. Have them describe their approach to you and how they will work with you to help you achieve your goals. Does their approach make sense to you? Did you sense a personal connection? If so, then they may be a good choice.
Fourth, you will get the most out of your coaching if you keep your appointments and work hard with an open mind and heart. As long as you are willing to stay with it, the problem areas of your life can be transformed.
Remember: ADHD coaching is a commitment that happens over time, requiring practice and insight building. The only way a client can fail with an ADHD Coach is to either quit before you accomplish your goals or not show up consistently for appointments.
